High Temperature Mid?IR Polarizer via Natural In?Plane Hyperbolic Van der Waals Crystals

Integration of conventional mid to long-wavelength infrared (IR) polarizers with chip-scale platforms is restricted by their bulky size and complex fabrication. Van der Waals materials based polarizer can address these challenges due its nonlithographic fabrication, ease integration platforms, room temperature operation. In the present work, mid-IR optical response sub-wavelength thin films ?-phase molybdenum trioxide (?-MoO3 ) investigated for application toward high transmission reflection type film polarizer. To authors’ knowledge, this first report above ?-MoO3 determine thermal stability proposed device. It found that retains extinction ratio peak value exceeding 10 dB, up a 140 °C. The experimental findings are explained natural in-plane hyperbolic anisotropy in mid-IR, X-ray diffraction Raman spectroscopic measurements. This work opens new avenues naturally van thin-films realize IR components without lithographic constraints.
